Blue tooth trackpad does not connect to iMac

I have an iMAC (Mid 2011) and I'm trying to get the blue tooth to recognize my trackpad but it doesn't. The icon in the discover shows a trackpad but the name of the trackpad shows up with some type of hexadecimal number. Does anyone have any ideas. The battery strength is at 85% so that is not the problem.
