My Magic Keyboard is faulty

I know this is the Mac Mini forum, but there doesn't seem to be one for keyboards so..

The magic keyboard I use with my Mac Mini 2012 has been playing up lately. It will generally work fine but then it's start repeatedly typing one letter, or will seem to lose contact with the Mac and letters will not appear on the screen when typed, then all of a sudden everything typed will start to to appear. It also seems to be going through batteries quicker.

Is there any way to test or check where this problem is coming from? I don't want to spend the money on a new keyboard only to find it's a software issue or something.

thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply Carol.

I worked through that article before I got here. I'm not sure it was exactly relevant to my issue, apart from one thing it brought up. I have recently added and external USB hard-drive that sits between me and my Mac Mini, is there any way that could be causing interference?

I have moved it now, but as the issue is temperamental in nature it's impossible to say if it's a fix yet.

Is there anything else I can check?
