Q: Can't connect my MacBook Pro to my Sony TV.

I'm trying to connect my MacBook Pro to my Sony Bravia, Model KDL-40VL160, When I plug in the HDMI adapter to my TV  and laptop it still says "No signal." I've tried opening system preferences and turning on air display but it doesn't give me the option. What do I do? The Sony support page wasn't any help.

MacBook Pro, iOS 7.0.6

You cannot use AirPlay Mirroring directly between your MacBook Pro and your HDTV. You will need, as a minimum, an Apple TV as an interface to do so.

However, page 14 of the Operating Instructions refers to a separate Quick Setup Guide on how to connect a PC using HDMI. Since I don't have access to that guide, I'm not sure what it has to offer in getting your Mac to do the same.

Which version of OS X is your MacBook Pro running?
