Q: I have an older Apple time capsule with 2Tb of memory, how can hook it up to my new Apple Extreme router?

I Have an older Apple Timne Capsule with 2TB of memory for backup purpose and I have replaced it with the new Apple Extreme.  How can hook the time capsule up to the new extreme so I can continue to use it for backup purposes only?

    Ethernet will do it.

Plug the old TC into the new one with a suitable ethernet patch cord. (up to 300ft long).

Did you do a setup of the new AE as a replacement of the old TC?? If so it will already be reset to factory.. !!

Otherwise reset the old TC back to factory and reconfigure it.. wireless off (if the new AE and old TC are close together no need to use wireless) and the TC in bridge mode.. once configured you should then see the old TC list in Finder as it did before.

Be warned Apple networking can have issues doing TM backup to a TC it is not directly connected to. If you have issues down the track just post again.

To avoid asking you to reset the Time Capsule back to factory default settings and then set it up all over again from scratch, (although this may be necessary) we need for you to check some settings on the Time Capsule.

Do you have a Mac running a recent version of the Mac operating system?

Does the Mac have an Ethernet port on the device?  If not, do  you have a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter or a USB to Ethernet adapter handy?

There will be more questions, so please be patient.
