Media streaming from Airport Time Capsule to other devices

Can I wirelessly stream video and music files stored in the Airport Time Capsule (stored only in the Airport Time Capsule drive, not in my Macbook or other devices) to devices such as my Iphone or Apple TV? I'm looking for a solution where I can store my large library of media files in an external drive and wirelessly access (listen, watch) them from various devices, via streaming as opposed to downloading the files. Appreciate any guidance!

TC is unsuited to this task. You can do it.. but Apple built everything around iTunes. There are no media extensions in the TC.. unlike other wireless routers which have DLNA apple do not.

So if you store the iTunes library in the TC you still need a Mac active on the network to stream the files via iTunes. And if you do that you might as well scrape the idea of the TC and just use a Mac as a Media server. A mac mini suits well and any from 2012 until the next refresh are cheap and work great. You can plug a large USB drive into it.

Otherwise you need to think of using Plex server and clients or something non-apple.

As LaPastenague has already pointed out the Time Capsule would not be a good choice for this purpose.

Instead, especially if you already do NOT own a Time Capsule, I would suggest you consider getting a dedicated NAS device which supports media server services, like devices provided by Synology. All of these run Disk Station software that has very full-featured media services.

In addition, they also provide iTunes server services and can be used for Time Machine.
