Mac OS X 10.11 Epson Print driver not recognizing Artisan direct CD/DVD print capability

Computer: iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7

20GB 1333 MHz DDR3

2 TB HD

OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

My Epson Artisan 837 printer has the capability to print directly on to printable CD/DVDs.

I

When I try to print to a CD/DVD, in the print dialog box under the "Layout" selections no CD/DVD option appears as all the articles I've read said where this option is located. (Note: I've checked every selection, e.g. "Media & Quality" and sub option and the CD/DVD media option does not appear.

I've connected wireless through my router and directly to the iMac using an ethernet cable - no difference.

The Epson website says get the latest print drivers through the App Store.

The App Store says "No updates available".

I believe Apple is supplying a faulty Epson print driver.

Also, I've purchased Disc Cover 3 through the App Store and their program says the CD/DVD media option should be available in the print dialog box under the layout option. They list the Epson Artisan 835 but not the 837 but there is little difference between the two.

Epson's print CD software says Apple Air Print is used - i.e., the Apple Epson print driver is used so none of their software works either.

Please Help.

Hello Silas McGee,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that you are having an issue printing from your Epson printer directly to printable CDs and DVDs. I know it's nice to be able to print to printable CDs and DVDs, as I have done this before myself. I can assist you with this.

I would recommend downloading and installing the Epson Artisan 837 All-in-One Printer drivers directly from Epson's website. You can find them in the link below:

Have a great day!

Your suggestion got me to look at the instruction in the Disc Cover 3 printing dialog more closely and sure enough under the "Layout" drop-down there is the "Print Settings" option and when selected shows the "Media Type" where you can choose "CD/DVD" from several options available. Too late at night I guess since I didn't find this earlier.

Disc Cover 3 Instruction: "Epson printers:

From the Layout drop-down choose Print Settings, and set Media Type to CD/DVD."

Works great.

Thank you.
