Q: iTunes Podcast download cloud re-appears after download & listening
Hi there team. The below transcript details a trouble shooting issue I’m having to do with Podcast downloads that online support could not solve. As such it was recommended to now email some screen shots of the issue.
In brief - random Podcasts throughout any of my iTunes Podcast subscriptions will “re-appear” to be downloaded in the “Feed” or “My Episodes" (Cloud icon comes back) even though the podcasts had previously been downloaded & listened to in entirety.
I only use Macbook Pro as the download centre for Podcasts & then transfer manually what I want to listen to onto a Shuffle gen2. In other words no autofill sometimes I may transfer 1 or 2 episodes to listen to, other times many more. The Shuffle is only the 1GB version I've had since new.
The steps I take are: I will listen to Podcasts entirely on the Shuffle only. Then when time for new episodes I re-open iTunes (12.4.3.1), connect shuffle. Once synched delete off the Shuffle manually the listened to Podcasts in the “Device Screen”, manually refresh my subscriptions & download any new episodes, then drag previously downloaded "not played" episodes of choice to the Shuffle. The Shuffle proceeds to sync with each drag of a newly added episode.
Other fixes I have tried.
1. - Ensuring Podcasts completely play from one track to the next with no skipping near the wrap of one show to the next.
2. - Editing play list rather than directly selecting & deleting Podcasts in the Device Screen.
3. - When connecting the Shuffle post episode plays ensuring that synching updates in “My Episodes” - (blue “unplayed” dot now disappears)
Generally I subscribe to get a Podcast, then unsubscribe to stop automatic downloads of new episodes. This way I can manually refresh for new episodes & download when I prefer in case I’m close to exceeding my monthly internet download quota.
PS - A smaller item - “Classic View” - in Podcasts is locked on somewhere, but I prefer the “List” view option . However clicking on Device or Playlists then back to Podcasts library results in the view defaulting back to “Classic View”. Changing to “List” view via either (View/Show View Options/List) or (View/View As/List) does not hold the setting. Any other suggestions there?
Anyways let me know your suggestions of the main issue if there is a setting somewhere I’m missing on iTunes or the Shuffle that either one or the two are not recognising an episode as being downloaded after the event. I can provide a screen shot that shows a half listened to Podcast episode (half blue & white moon next to the episode on the left of title) & the download cloud on the right of title. Yet I had downloaded the episodes weeks before & have only listened to half of the episode.
Thanks in advance.
Lou
