Q: folders appearing empty

why are my folders appearing empty? it is happening more often now and I am worried something is really wrong with this thing. i have to relaunch Finder for the files to reappear. and then it happens again as i open other folders. I need help please! it is driving me nuts.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013), OS X 10.9.5

Rebuild spotlight index could solve the problem.
Rebuild the Spotlight index on your Mac - Apple Support
