iCloud on iphone5s

I changed my email address in my iCloud account recently but when I go into settings on my phone, iCloud is still showing my old email address - why has it not been updated from my iCloud account?

Also, it occasionally asks me to login so I use the password attached to my new email address and it logins fine - is this because it knows my primary email address is now my new one?
