Q: How to retain transitions from Apple Photo Jpeg codec

I made a slide show some years ago using iPhoto and exported it as a movie. It uses transitions heavily, especially crossfades. Now when I try to upload it to a site such as vimeo, the video must be converted using a standard codec like H.264. Once converted, all of the transitions are lost making the final video look crude by comparison.

Is there a way to convert this video and preserve the transitions?

Format:

Apple Photo - JPEG, 640 × 480, Millions

Apple Photo - JPEG, 640 × 480, Millions

Apple Photo - JPEG, 640 × 480, Millions

Cross Fade, 640 × 480, Millions

16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz

DV, 720 × 480 (640 × 480), Millions

FPS: 0.36

Data Rate: 6852.76 kbits/s

Duration: 0:00:05:15.41

Normal Size: 640 x 480 pixels

PowerBook, iOS 9.3.4

Try to open the file with QuickTime X and should convert for modern use.

Simply trying to open the file in QTX forced it to convert. However, the conversion process removed all of the dissolves. I then tried to export it using QT7 with the H.264 codec and again all dissolves did not convert.

    The original mov format lists:

    Apple Photo - JPEG, 640 × 480, Millions

    Cross Fade, 640 × 480, Millions

Is it possible to render all transitions during the conversion?

Otherwise I will have to basically remake the entire movie from scratch to re-add the dissolves.

I finally solved this issue by opening the movie file in the current version of Apple's Photos for Mac program. I then exported it as a slide show. Since the transitions were already embedded into the original movie file they were retained. Photos uses the H.264 codec on export, so I was then able to upload to Vimeo without further conversion.
