Q: Preowned iphone 4 connected to iTunes. Will it automatically erase all data?

I Purchased an older iphone 4 that had been pawned and connected to iTunes by the previous owner and I would like to connect I iTunes myself to upload music pictures etc. will connecting to a computer erase my iphone and start me over from scratch or can I just back up the phone on my PC and not worry about restore. I've had the phone for almost two years and if it wasn't my connection to the world it wouldn't worry me so but at this point im afraid to even connec

once you 'trust' it to a new computer the songs previously synched to another computers instance of iTunes will be removed. The pictures should remain.
you may wish to back up the device before proceeding
