Q: tivo mini with airport express

My question concerns tivo, the airport express and AC extreme.  having the standard tivo romaio in my bedroom and the mini in the other bedroom about 25ft away, with about 7ft thick walls.  the mini is chopping the audio and video of course.  so searching online, wanting to know the better solution.  so  the connections are such:

1st bedroom:

AP extreme connected to modem

romaio connected by ethernet to AP extreme

2nd bedroom:

AP express connected by ethernet to tivo mini

AP express is bridged as "extended" to the extreme

bridged on 2.4ghz network

so the question is either to "extend" the network or "join" the network?

then either bridge on the 2.4ghz or 5ghz?

any details, let me know

airport extreme

    It is not significant difference.

so the question is either to "extend" the network or "join" the network?

then either bridge on the 2.4ghz or 5ghz?

The issue is just signal level and bandwidth.

It is hard to get the numbers now as the airport utility v6 is more a toy than utility ie a tool. Like using a plastic hammer to actually hammer nails.

Try and get the link speed.. in v6 you roll your mouse pointer over the connection. Like thus.

I have two gen5 AE connected as extend wireless.. This was not working over long connection so I moved the Extreme to within a few feet of the other unit. Now they are about 4' apart.

The connection now shows as 195Mb/s but you need the reading during actual file transfer. It will drop considerably doing work.

If you can get an older computer or windows machine and install 5.6 utility you will get a lot more info.

Links are not identical end to end.. although here it works pretty well. As I had it before the connection showed ok one end but much poorer on the other.. this info is now unobtainable in v6 utility.

25ft away, with about 7ft thick walls.

I am pretty sure the walls are 7 inches rather than 7feet thick.

But everything depends on the construction and number of walls.

Light frame timber and plasterboard (rockboard??) have fairly low wireless resistance.

Brick or concrete solid walls have huge amount of resistance to wireless.. so you need to use ethernet or EOP adapters.

I just solved the issue.  By "joining" the 5GHz, the Mini is not having any skips.  thanks for the help.
