hi I tried to transfer a large file from one mac to another and the transfer was stopped and not finished. I found that the unfinished download was still taking up space on the other mac so the unfinished file must be kept somewhere? does anyone know where? thanks.

yes. when it is transferring, the file shows up but if it is halted it does not and it just disappears.
To the best of my knowledge, if you halt it, nothing gets copied. All or nothing.
ok then why am I missing space on my hard drive that I wasn't missing before the transfer? and yes I have emptied my trash
See if you can find the file(s) using one of these programs. If you go Finder/View/Show Path Bar, it will show you where it is located.
