Q: USB to HDMI Adapter Not Projecting to my HP Monitor with Macbook Air

Hello,

Around a month or so ago I decided to purchase a Macbook Air 13" for high school. Just recently I bought a HP 27es monitor from Best Buy. So since there is no thunderbolt to HDMI I cannot connect the monitor that way. So I am using a usb to hdmi adapter to my monitor and the monitor is not projecting my macbook air screen. I have literally tried everything and am seriously regretting buying a mac since all of this trouble is coming towards me. I don't understand why it is not projecting my screen. I have switched the inputs on my monitor from VGA, to HDMI's 1 and 2, still doesn't project. Yes, everything is plugged in correctly, doesn't project. I really need help with this, any professional help will be helpful to me. I have also checked my system preferences but my monitor doesn't even show up there either. My macbook air 13' probably doesn't have the dimensions as my monitor is 1080p but the customer service manager at Best Buy said that would be no problem. Please help me ASAP as now I can't return my monitor or mac since they are opened. Thanks for all the help in advance.

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)
