Can't add debit card to Apple Watch

I have discovered over the last couple of days that my Apple Watch isn't working for Apple Pay. I have deleted the card from my iPhone 6 and re-added it with no problems but when I attempt to add the same card to my Apple Watch, it fails with the pop-up error of Card Not Added - Contact your card issuer for more information. Add card later or Try Again. I'm with Lloyds bank in the UK and don't understand why it would seem to work on the iPhone but not the Watch.

It may help to follow these steps on your iPhone (cards will need to be added back to both devices afterwards):


  • Go to: Settings > iCloud - at the bottom of the screen, Sign out.
  • Go to: Settings > Touch ID & Passcode - Turn Passcode off.
  • Restart your iPhone.
  • Sign back in to iCloud, turn Passcode back on and try again to add your card.

Set up Apple Pay on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch - Apple Support


If you continue to experience issues with adding the card to your watch, I suggest that you contact your bank for assistance.
