Planned obsolescence
So... I gave away my android phone, and dusted off an old hand-me-down 3GS. It charged up nicely. It makes and receives calls, and allows me to text. It has iOS 6.1.6 installed. I really only wanted to add Pandora to this phone, so I could Bluetooth to my car. The only real problem is planned obsolescence. I wonder at what point customer support becomes a steering mechanism to force consumers to purchase things they don't need. I've spent a week or so checking out what Apple defines as support; and frankly my experience has been woeful. To be fair; I had assumed that I would soon be buying a newer model iPhone. I'm soooooo glad that I waited! It seems that Apple doesn't really support their devices. They tolerate their devices. Even the Apple I store had nothing to support this device any longer. Now, various tech geeks seem to be able to manipulate the platform to keep older phones viable, but WHO wants to deal with that garbage? Imagine going to fuel your car, but they won't sell you gas because it's too old! Yes, I like new things as well, but I don't like being FORCED to buy the newest novelty item. Now, obviously there WAS a perfectly functional Pandora apk for the 3GS when it was the shines new kid in town; but Apple has blocked owners from these older versions. Today's news showing the huge security issue in ios9 shows that other incarnations of iPhones also have security flaws; but of course some phones just won't be supported. Tell me why I should continue to seriously consider a new iPhone? Look, I'll consider a new iPhone when Apple begins to support their customers by supplying older versions of apk's in it's stores. In the meantime perhaps a sattellite phone may be in my near future. Grow up Apple!
