iPhoto captions metadata on Raw file formats

It appears that iPhoto 6.1 can only save Descriptions/captions on jags aaaargh, losing the benefit of RAW and GIFF photo formats. Photos appear to allow me to do this but i still prefer iPhoto as an editing platform. Any suggestions? I am an agricultural photographer who has to include captions with every photo. Art directors want RAW files.

You can not edit RAW files and I am not aware of any RAW version that can contain captains - the RAW from every camera is different so possibly there is but not to my knowledge

Adobe appears to agree with this too as they only discuss metadata with JPEGs --- http://www.photometadata.org/meta-tutorials-adobe-bridge
