Q: voicemail freezes up iPhone 4s

This just started today.  When I tap the icon for voice mail.  My phone freezes up.  I can erase that screen and my phone works again.  But, if I tap the voice mail icon it freezes up again.  As long as I do not touch the voice mail icon, my phone works fine.  I feel if I had access somehow to those many voicemails and could delete all of them, I might solve my problem, but I just cannot access them.

    Hello GoMizzou63,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding your iPhone freezes when trying to access the voicemail. I know voicemail messages can be very important. I want to make sure you're able to access these messages without having to worry about your iPhone freezing.

Restarting the phone can resolve many unexpected behaviors. Please follow the steps below to restart:

    1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
    2. Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
    3. After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue persists after restarting please make sure your software is up to date. The following link can be used to assist with updating if needed:

Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

    Have a great day!

In addition to @JovonaP.'s advice, please consider this:

Voicemail is a cellular carrier function.  Generally, many cellular carriers allow you to access your voicemail via alternate ways.  One popular way is to dial your iPhone's telephone number from another telephone, let it go to the voicemail greeting, and type some character (typically the asterisk) while the greeing is playing.  This would interrupt the greeting and request that you enter your voicemail password.  Once you do that, you can hear, erase, etc. all your messages.

Further, if @JovonaP.'s advice does not solve your issue, and the above suggestion also does not solve it (unlikely), ask your cellular carrier for further assistance.
