Q: Windows doesn't work after resizing partition in OSX Disk Utilities

Hello,

I tried to reduce the OSX partition size in order to increase the Windows 7 partition size and have been unable to boot into windows ever since. Bootcamp is greyed out in Disk Utilities as disk0s3, and I an unable to mount Bootcamp in OSX.

I've tried using the  sudo fdisk -e /dev/disk0 tutorial I've seen on here as well, and that allowed me to see Windows as an option when I start the computer and hold ALT.  However, I get the "Missing Operating System" error.

After that I tried running System Repair (including using diskpart to select the partition) but no luck with that. I really don't want to restore the Windows partition and lose files, so does anyone know what I can do to save my files and get windows to boot?

MacBook, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

Please post the output of the following OS X Terminal commands.

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

    sudo dd if=/dev/rdisk0s3 count=1 2>/dev/null | hexdump -C

The "sudo" commands will prompt you for your password, which will not be echoed back to you.

What is the year/model is your Mac?

What is the version of Windows?

You do not have a Recovery HD, so the tutorial does not apply to you. Was your Recovery HD deleted? Mavericks normally has a Recovery HD.

You may need to use Testdisk and look for a 'lost' NTFS partition. Please download Testdisk ( http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download ) and use After changing my mac partition, bootcamp can't find windows anymore! as a UI reference to start a Testdisk scan.

I believe it was deleted by the original owner who I got it from. And I've started the scanning process it's analyzing right now. I see that the process takes some time, so I will let you know when I've completed it.

The %00 is incorrect. The correct percentage can be calculated by the ratio of the two numbers - sectors scanned/total sectors.

Was Windows already installed when you received the Mac?

Understood. I've been looking at the ratio, it shouldn't be me much longer now.

And yes Windows was already installed.

This is a list of unrecoverable partitions. Press Enter/Return to Continue. Do not use Escape or select Quit, otherwise you may to start again.

On a Mac, you can take screen shots using Applications -> Utilities -> Grab.

Sorry for the late reply, I just got back to being able to work on the laptop. But I've identified the partition with my files it is this one here.analyze 2.jpg

I've begun following the steps in the tutorial but after typing the correct offsets (step 7-9), I pressed P and there was no changes made. What should I do now? Here's a picture.gdisk 1.jpg

Do I have to edit down the end sector for partition 2 before I can edit the beginning sector of partition 3?

Your Windows start address is inside the current OS X partition. You will need to delete GPT2 and recreate it where the two entries do not overlap.
