Q: How do I remove Alibaba ad ware?

Every time I search on Amazon, a tab in my browser opens up in the Chinese website, Alibaba, in addition to the Amazon page. How do I stop this? I use Chrome on 10.11.6. All the web searches I've looked at don't help. I can't see Alibaba or Babylon to remove. I reset Chrome, didn't help. I may have gotten this from a "free" mp3 that I downloaded which track I couldn't find anywhere else. Maybe I need to delete that track? Spotlighting Alibaba or Babylon does not help.

I use Chrome because Safari is actually too slow, and seems to cause time machine backups to fail.

Consider getting an appropriate extension for Chrome to eliminate adware.

    Fixes for Adware and Pop-ups

    1. Malwarebytes
    2. DetectX 2.11
    3. Remove adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac
    4. Stop pop-up ads and adware in Safari - Apple Support

[Please ignore remarks such as “Don't use any kind of "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" product on a Mac.“ Such remonstrations are an exaggeration. They may be needed in some situations, but need not be installed or used for all circumstances. Furthermore, adware removal programs make the job of removal much easier. They require no permanent installation to remove adware or other types of malware. They do no damage, and they don’t make you more vulnerable to attack.]

I deleted the "free" song files from my computer and that seems to have done it. I've downloaded Malwarebytes and am performing a scan now too, though. Thanks.

Well, I got one Alibaba pop up window this morning. Considering the amount of shopping I had to do on Amazon it wasn't much, but still one IS too much. So maybe removing the song did not help.

I just ran Malwarebytes this morning—it seemed to be stuck last night, and I didn't have the time—and removed the suggested files. (Malwarebytes ran quickly this time.)

    Will report back. Thanks again!

Well, Malwarebytes didn't seem to work. Still got an Alibaba window open when I searched on Amazon. But it is happening much less now. Will try the next thing on your list.

Well, I didn't try your others suggestions yet...the last two have to do with Safari which I am not using.

When the last Alibaba window opened, I noticed a lower case "i" in a circle, standing for information I'd assume, at the extreme right of the URL. I was able to view cookies from the site and deleted them. When I reloaded the window, some of the cookies reappeared so this time I just blocked all cookies from that site. So far so good. No Alibaba windows have opened when browsing on Amazon, yet.
