Q: Failed updates after new HD installes

I live in South Africa, and use a MacBook Pro bought in the USA late in 2014. When I had to replace the HD in December 2015 the local Apple-certified company had to order teh HD from the USA. After installing it, they restored my software and data files and eMails in Mail.

Since the HD replacement I haven't been able to install any updates because after I give permission to update I get a notice that no updates are available under "this Apple ID" or something to this effect. After 8 months of failed updates my HD is slow again with my computer temporarily freezing and the colored please-wait wheel spinning every now and then. What should I do to allow the updates to succeed?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), Ms Off 4 Mac prob, not a Mac prob.

It appears that an Apple ID other than yours was used when the HD was replaced.

    - Backup you data to an external disk

    - Boot to Internet Recovery

About OS X Recovery - Apple Support

holding down Option-Command-R to start up from OS X Internet Recovery*.

If you only boot to the Recovery partition you may have same problem

and then format the startup disk and install OSX. WHen you install from Internet Recovery, the version of OSX installed is what initially came with the Mac. Thus, you may have to update/upgrade via the Mac App Store
