Toyota Touch and Go plus can't browse tracks over Bluetooth
My Toyota Auris Touch and Go plus audio system is unable to browse tracks when connected to my iPhone 6S plus over bluetooth. Plugging into the USB port isn't an option because the phone pulls too much current shutting the port down.
Despite having the latest updates both for the audio system and iOS9 I only get basic play an forward/back controls.
Contacting Toyota support produced a response stating:
"Browse is not compatible via bluetooth for iPhones, this is because Apple have blocked the bluetooth profile that allows this"
Looking at their support forums this is the standard response that people have been getting for at least a year now.
Apple's official documentation contains a footnote suggesting the exact opposite and putting the fault with Toyota:
"Depending on the Bluetooth accessory, you may experience slight variations in profile functionality. These variations are governed by the accessory manufacturer, not the iOS device."
Can anyone suggest a solution / workaround that doesn't involve getting rid of either my phone or my car?
Failing that, does anyone know what the exact problem is and if Apple are working on a fix for it? (Toyota clearly aren't) Presumably it's something to do with a non-conforming implementation of the AVCRP protocol.
