Q: Why do some individual artists albums show up as a compilation?
I have almost 1200 albums in iTunes. Music from a long time ago, ripped from cd's, downloads from iTunes and Amazon. I've noticed lately, perhaps I never noticed before that some individual artists are showing up as compilations. ???
For instance, Dylan-Bootleg 8 Telltale Signs. All music is sung by Dylan, I think there is one or two other artists singing but this album should not be listed as a compilation. There are quite a few more and the check mark is in the box for compilation under get info, but why? I didn't put the checkmark there.
There are numerous other issues with iTunes but honestly it is the only game in town for a Mac. Yes, I've looked at other players like Swinsian but I want to keep the continuity of iTunes despite its many faults. I guess with Apples push towards getting rid of downloads and leaning towards streaming only, maybe certain odd things happening is their plan?
Retina 5K iMac, iTunes Match (never had any issues till Apple music) 6s Plus 128g, 64g Apple TV4 playing to Yamaha. Music is on almost all of the time.
Any thoughts? Pointers?
The are very poor choices in select category to select from.
iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1), null

Well, if you don't know who put the check marks there then we don't. Some did. Maybe they came that way but don't need it. You say some tracks have other artists. Unless a track artist name is 100% identical to others they won't group unless you check compilation or enter an album artist which is identical. If you don't like the compilation button checked try using album artist. Or just remove it and see what happens to the grouping of the tracks. I have one or two single artist albums with compilation checked because for some reason iTunes refuses to group the tracks together even though I have tried every other trick in the book to group them.
