Lost disk space after deleting bootcamp partition

Hi all

My Apple SSD shows 251 gb, but my Macintosh HD partition only has 210 gb with no free space. I have previously partitioned 40gb for BootCamp. I tried removing the bootcamp partition via bootcamp utility, but it didn't work, so I removed the partition via disk utility. I tried to combine the partition back into 251 gb, but it failed. Now, it doesn't even show there is 41gb free space. Is there anyway I can reclaim the 41 gb?

Some information from terminal:

diskutil list

User uploaded file

diskutil cs list

User uploaded file

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

User uploaded file

sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

User uploaded file

Please, could anyone shed some light on this issue? Thanks in advance!

In your specific case, the safner route is the TM route.

If you want to, please backup OS X, and the order of disk slices in the following commands is critical, otherwise you will lose data .

diskutil mergePartitions jhfs+ "Macintosh HD" disk0s2 disk0s3

Now use DU to expand your partition, and reinstall OS X to get Recovery hd back that we just overwrote with mergePartitions command.

I finally found a solution that worked for me:

1. Go to single user mode (cmd + S while rebooting)

2. Use the command "/sbin/fsck -fy", which fixes the partition error

3. Restart into INTERNET RECOVERY's disk utility (cmd option R)

4. Resize partition into 251 GB.

For some reason the newer disk utility doesn't work. Only the older 10.8 disk utility in the internet recovery worked.
