Checking with Etrecheck, I see a flag for 98% CPU usage in the Top Processes list for "esinter".
This is confirmed with Application Monitor (there the percentage varies, of course, but is consistently around the 90% and more mark).
I have tried Quitting and Force Quitting "esinter" in Activity Monitor, but it returns after just a few seconds.
What is it and how can I get rid of it?

Thank you all for your replies. I found and trashed a Plist that indicated esinter, restarted, and that solved the problem.

ArcSoft software you installed.
Esinter appears to be a program from ArcSoft. If you think that sounds familiar, try searching for a way to uninstall the software--probably on their website.
Hi David, uninstall ArcSoft. That file is created when you abort a backup.
Uninstall ArcSoft using their uninstaller or do it by hand.
