- if downloading it directly on the iPad have you tried downloading it on the computer that it's synced to and tried syncing it over to the iPad ?
- or tried disconnecting/reconnecting to your network ?
- closed the iBooks app via the iPad's taskbar and seeing if it downloads when you re-open the app ?
- done a soft-reset/reboot of the iPad?
