Q: No Photos in iCloud icon

It is my understanding that any photos it take with either my iphone of iPad are stored on icloud.  Yet when I open the icloud icon on my home screen none show.  Only two icons appear.  They are Numbers and Pages.  Shouldn't the photos appear?  They do show up if I open the Photos icon on the home screen.

 

I am confused.  Are the photos on icloud or are they stored on my device?

Log on to iCloud.com from a browser on a computer and see if they are there. If not, they are not being uploaded to iCloud and there are many causes for this. If you have Photos turned on under iCloud they would be part of an iCloud backup but not visible in iCloud. If you have iCloud Photo Library turned on, they should appear on iCloud but this comes with other consequences, see here:

    Thank you.  Both Photos and Photo Library are turned on.

     

    When I viewed iCloud with my browser and iCloud Drive showed up but was empty except for Pages.  However, in addition to iCloud Drive the was a icon for Photos, the same one as on my home screen.  It had all my photos.

     

    So apparently the photos are not supposed to be on iCloud Drive but in the Photos on the cloud.  Is this correct?

     

    I am totally confused.

    You are correct:  "So apparently the photos are not supposed to be on iCloud Drive but in the Photos on the cloud."

     

    If they are there you should be safe but please remember that if you delete them on the phone they will be deleted on iCloud Photos as well. Pls. read that link I gave carefully, I cannot tell you how many users I have tried to help to no avail as they deleted the photos on a device not realizing that with iCPL ON they will also be deleted on iCloud.
