Many of us here have tried very hard to provide you with assistance. This included asking you a number of troubleshooting questions, many which you would not, or could not answer.

A user earlier in the thread recommended your going to the nearest Apple Store to use their free wi-fi and you can also get assistance from a Genius in updating your device. The Apple Stores also have workshops on the use of the various Apple products, and I suggest you look into something for your iPad. I mean no disrespect, but it seems obvious from your questions and subsequent replies that you have some difficulty understanding some of the operations of the iPad, as well as its connection to the internet. I believe you could benefit greatly from this type of training and should also make you more confident in performing tasks with your iPad, such as updating the iOS and downloading content from iTunes and the App Store. Good luck.

P.S. Elcpu's post about the User Guide was just a typo. Once also exists for the iPad you could use for reference, http://help.apple.com/ipad/9/

You can go to you local library, they are likely to have a book on the iPad.

I will not speak for others, but the frustration is with the issue and not with you.

I think the problem here is that the specific issue you are experiencing could be more easily addressed if someone were able to actually sit down with you and demonstrate what to do on your iPad. Obviously we can't do that here, so that is why it was suggested that you visit the Apple Store. If you want to do that, you can follow the procedure at http://getsupport.apple.com.

Or, if you want, we can continue this discussion. There is just one thing I don't understand. You said:

to perfectly honest I really don't have the time or patience for that so I can come home have nothing

I think this may be the root of the problem. We are happy to help you but we need your cooperation. You expressed that all you want to do is update iOS. To do that, you will need to follow the previous suggestions to go to some place that has Wi-Fi, and download and install the update while connected to their Wi-Fi. It's true that you won't have Wi-Fi when you get back home, but at least you will have an up-to-date iOS which is what you want.

Please do not cry. This issue is really not worth getting upset over. I do not think that anyone here is upset with you. Yes, I do think that you should talk to someone in person, either at Verizon or Apple (probably Apple would be better), as it would be easier to assist you that way.

When you are at home, what product are you using to access these Apple discussions?

Is there a computer accessing the internet? What are these products? By brand & type.

Your home system for internet may support the iPad, once it is upgraded to the last

supported version of iOS it can use; an Apple store with Genius (by appointment)

would be a good place to get help. Also, they offer free basic instruction; and the

publications noted by other helpful persons here, are valid great offline resources.

Some computers can share their built-in wireless with other devices; some cannot.

If the computer is using a specialized non-Cable internet modem, that uses an

antenna and then goes to a wire into the computer, that may not be suited for iPad.

Also some iPad models included a data cable... Most of these items can be talked

about at an Apple store. Or perhaps an independent Apple authorized reseller if they

have a product specialist; or a service department and diagnostic help. Regular Apple

'support' by phone would cost per incident, but a Genius visit would not cost.

Sorry you've had such difficulty in your attempts to be heard and understood.

And I haven't any new answers for you in regard to this matter.

    Except: Good luck!

    Hello Kim,

I think the main source of miscommunication here is how you are interpreting "wireless" and "wi-fi". I say that because you keep putting Verizon and wi-fi together in your responses, and they have nothing to do with each other.

I'm guessing this stems from from the confusing use of terms by the industry itself. In this case, Verizon Wireless. Wireless in this context has zero to do with Wi-Fi, or wireless as others are trying to get you to clarify. All Verizon means by that marketing name is that the phone capability of your iPad (and any cell phone) has no wires connecting it to a wall as a standard phone handset would.

You need to disregard anything to do with Verizon for this discussion as they are not in any way involved in the Wi-Fi abilities of your iPad.

    Your iPad does two things:

    1) It has a Verizon 3G data feature. All association with Verizon ends here.

    2) It has a second and completely separate hardware function. Wi-Fi. This part of the device allows you to connect to the Internet.

What others have been trying to get across is that the Wi-Fi part of your device is what you need to use in order to download any updates for your iPad, as it requires an Internet connection to do so. Not a phone connection. It's the same part of the hardware that allows you to use your web browser anytime you are near an Internet Wi-Fi signal.

Whenever you are using the Internet on your iPad, you are using the Wi-Fi, or wireless, part of your device. All iPads have this function, whether you have a separate carrier such as Verizon / CenturyLink / T-Mobile on it or not.

So! What everyone means is if you have no Internet access at any given moment, it means you aren't near the router in your home the iPad communicates with normally, and you haven't gone into the Settings to connect to a different nearby Wi-Fi signal so you can access the Internet when you aren't at home. Again, this has nothing to do with Verizon. The phone part will still work as long as you're within range of any Verizon cell tower even when the Internet doesn't work in the same location since they are not at all related.

Does this help make sense of the issue?

YEs I have the Internet I hado gone into the settings but in order for this update my iPad2 to iOS 8.4.1 or higher it requires a wifi network connection to my ipad2 to download in which I don't have anything to do that at home so I can connect my ipad2 to wifi and plus I don't have wifi at home so I can do that can you please understand what I'm saying so what do I do now

Never mind. I can only assume you are being purposely evasive. You say you have an Internet connection, but can't download an update. That is a 100% impossible combination. Good luck with others continuing this game. I'm out.

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store. They will update the software for you. They have WiFi and they know how to use it.

Saying that you can't understand computers because you're a girl (a vile canard) or that this is so hard it's making you cry is not useful. It's not going to make anyone magically fix anything for you. Either you take the steps necessary to help solve your own problem or you live with the problem.

For clarification: wifi = wireless internet (via a modem and router, or modem/router combination).

If you have a Verizon internet connection, try resetting the Verizon component(s) and see if that helps.

(I didn't read the entire 5 pages of this discussion, so I'm sorry if I'm repeating advice which has already been given.)
