Why does a dialogue box appear whenever I click?

I've tried to change what side of the mouse secondary click is on, and I've even turned secondary click off all together but the dialogue boxes still pop up. Eventually I am able to click successfully only after alternating between right and left-clicking many times.

I'm using:

An iMac
A Magic Mouse
OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Magic mouse version 1 does not function entirely with El Capitan. You need Magic Mouse 2 which was designed for El Capitan.

Is there anything more you need to know? Do bear in mind that there is a new OS (Sierra) coming in a few weeks and that will need Magic mouse 2 for total functionality. Your current situation could be exacerbated.
