Q: Can I share access to iCloud Drive with Spouse?

Hubby and I run our own auto glass replacement company from home. We receive faxes, emails, documents etc at home base and I need to send them to him for the jobs dispatched. I usually do this by either

(a) iPhone to iPhone - I have to take a picture, then send via text or email to his iPhone.

(b) iMac to iPhone - When I receive email document, I take a screenshot (I use Lightshot) - send via text or email.

So both are hassles as extra steps, pictures in camera roll I don't want, etc. So I started to wonder about using iCloud Drive. I have never even turned it on. So I did on both my iPhone and my iMac (will do so on hubbies iPhone if sharing will work). I upgraded, I have 62GB left of storage in iCloud so I am good on all that.

I did a test, in Finder, iCloud Drive on my mac, I dragged and dropped a document made in Pages into "iCloud Drive". Lo and behold on my iPhone in iCloud Drive app there is that document.

(Q) Now - my question is if I was to turn on, upgrade, and show hubbies iCloud Drive app as I did mine, will he be able to access that document I dragged and dropped?

(Q) If not - are there steps we must take for him to be able to such as "Family Sharing" enabled, login to my iCloud acct, etc?

I have tried other apps like Wanderlust, and Infinit - but they are not quite what we want and was hoping Drive would be. If not suggest other iCloud apps the use iCloud Drive please!

Thank you!

It might be a good idea to have a separate iCloud account for both of you to share. That way you don't have to go to extra lengths to share pictures.

Sorry, he does have his own iCloud account. So how does that work if he has his own, I have my own but I want to drop in a document from my iMac to his iPhone?

Okay you will need to have the same iCloud account on both yours and his devices to be able to share documents like that. This might be able to help though Sharing links to iWork documents in iCloud - Apple Support

I checked out the link - thank you. I ran a series of tests with those steps they outline in it. Issues I have is I am trying to stay away from text messages and other than a link sent to messages, it can be sent to email. Neither work - he is inundated with quote requests and chats via text, and I handle all business email.

But, I loved how the documents showed up on my iPhone iCloud Drive app. If they would do that for him - we are in business!!

    (Q) But will they if he logs in my iCloud acct?

So If I understand you correctly - he would need to access my iCloud by what..

    (a) logging in to it on his phone in Settings/iCloud?

    (b) logging in by going to iTunes app, scroll to bottom - log in with my acct info?

    (c) visit  www.icloud.com?

    (d) show iCloud app on home - and login with my login and pw?

    (e) activate Family Sharing?

    (f) Other? Please explain

    (Q) IF NONE OF THESE WORK - HOW DO I CREATE AN ICLOUD ACCT THAT WE BOTH SHARE?

Yes he would need to sign in to your iCloud through his settings. And if he signs out of the one he is using now, unless he backs everything up into his iCloud that he is using right now, he will lose everything saved to iCloud. I recommend doing family sharing which all you would need to do is turn family sharing on and add family members to the account. That way you don't need to create a new account.
