Q: I am trying to upgrade to OS X El Capitan from 10.7.5. When I'm ready to down load I get this message from Apple, "This link needs to be opened with an application. Send to." "Choose an application. What application should I use. Mine dont work

You can only download it using the App Store application. You will want to find, "Install OS X El Capitan", installer that is about 6.22GBs in size. Once downloaded it will open automatically for you to install. Please see Basic Steps for Upgrading OS X before proceeding.
