How do I change my original email address that I used in setting up my Apple ID to my current email address?

When I first set up my Apple ID, I made an error in my email address. I have since change my Apple ID to reflect my correct email address. I have just upgraded my PC to a MacBook Pro. In setting up mail, the MacBook Pro keeps using the original email address instead of the Apple ID email address. Is this an auto correction problem?
