Q: Playback not resuming on episode I was last listening to

Since a recent update, when listening to podcasts in iTunes on my Mac, when I close the app or listen to a different podcast and then go back to the first podcast, iTunes no longer resumed playing the episode I was last listening to.  Instead, it plays either the first or last episode (depending on whether play order is set from oldest to newest or vice verse).

This is a recent update, and I can't seem to restore the old behavior.

It is quite annoying when listening for a second time through a back-catalogue of a podcast with hundreds of episodes, since I have to guess which episode I MIGHT have been listening to and then click around until I find one that is partially-played.  I have had to resort to taking a screenshot of the current episode before I switch to another podcast or close iTunes so I know where I left off.

Is this a bug?  An I missing a setting that is buried in a sub-menu somewhere?  Or is this the new de-facto behavior?

    Hello Aletheianalex,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. I know having an issue with playing podcasts in iTunes on your Mac is not what you expect. If I understand correctly, you are unable to resume podcasts at the same place you stopped them and then re-visit the episode. I have 2 suggestions that can help resolve this issue:

    1. You can figure out if unexpected behavior is related to a user file or setting by trying to reproduce the issue from another user account. This process includes creating a new user account, logging in to it, and testing for the issue.

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

    2. Next, all files in iTunes, including podcasts, have certain behaviors controlled by the “Get Info” data, so you may want to hold the Control key and then click a podcast you have this issue with and select Get Info. Then select the Options tab and make sure “Remember playback position” is enabled.
