How come iTunes is putting all songs under same album with same name now?

I'm in the process of putting my CD's back into my iTunes since I got a new computer. I've done this a few times before without issue. Most of my CDs are greatest hits.

So now I put in "Tom Petty Greatest Hits" then i'd put in "Tim Mcgraw Greatest Hits" the Tim Mcgraw songs would go into the Tom Petty album since they are both titled "Greatest Hits". So then I have to manually delete the album songs I just put in, change the name of the album and re import again so they don't merge.

Why is iTunes doing that all of a sudden? I never had an issue like that before.

If the Album Artist fields are different,iTunes foes the actually treat them as the same album, but they may appear together in some views and sort orders.

You don't have to re-import the CDs. Right-Click on the Album,or al, it's tracks, select Get Info and modify whatever fields you want. In your case the Album Artist tag.

In iTunes > Preferences > General > make sure Automatically retrieve CD track names from Internet is checked on.
