Q: itunes apple id not recognized

On my Windows desktop PC, several songs in my iTunes account will not play.

Message is .. You must authorize this computer for songs purchased using the Apple ID "fred012"

I am then asked to signon with Apple ID fred012 and password

fred012 is the nickname in my account but not my Apple ID

When I try to reset password for Apple ID fred012 the error message is that fred012 is not an Apple ID

any thoughts or rectifying the situation?

thanks

Your Apple ID should be a complete e-mail address. The 'fred012' name is only part of your Apple ID. It would need to be 'fred012@icloud.com' or maybe 'fred012@gmail.com' or something like that.

Thank you for your response and I understand what you are saying, but it does not help in my situation.

It appears that my computer contains a number of songs that were purchased in the iTunes store 10 years ago with a different user ID than the one I currently use.

The user IDs at that time seem to have NOT been email addresses.

When I try to have the password reset, it does not recognize the old ID precisely because it is not an email address.

Trying to see if there is any alternative to retrieve these songs and make them usable.

Music that was purchased from the iTunes store cannot be assigned to a different Apple ID. However, in this situation, you would do well to speak with an iTunes Advisor - they would be able to view your account history and verify the previous purchases. I cannot speak to what they might do, but it would be worth it to try to recover some of the music. You can reach iTunes at 1-800-MY-APPLE.
