Q: Safari Search Suggestions/Full-screen bug when using Google
Hi everyone,
I spoke with two Apple representatives about the following issue--they were great, but we couldn't nail down what was causing this issue. The issue is that, when searching with full-screen Safari, the suggestions box which appears under the Safari smart search bar does *not* disappear once you hit enter. This does not happen when Safari is not in full-screen mode.
See/replicate the issue below:
1. Open Safari (NOT in full-screen mode).
2. Make sure Google is your default search engine in Safari macOS.
3. Run a search. Notice the search suggestions, bookmark suggestions, etc, which populate under the Safari smart search bar as you type.
4. Hit enter. Notice how the suggestions are gone, and nothing interferes with the Google search results which just came up.
Now, do the same thing in full-screen mode in Safari. Notice how, after you hit enter, the suggestions *remain* under the Safari smart search bar. This interferes with what you can see on the Google page, and is annoying (I run Safari full-screen very often).
TO FIX:
1. You need to sign into your Google account.
2. Go to google.com
3. Click on "search" on the BOTTOM right of the page.
4. Go to search settings
5. Under Google instant predictions, click on "never show instant results."
6. Save and close Safari.
The issue should be fixed. You should be able to enter Google searches in Safari, and the suggestions box will disappear once you've entered a search.
Not sure if this is an issue for others, but it took me a couple of hours to figure out--Google searching through Safari full-screen is fine now.
