I am having the same problem. I have the ipad pro and keyboard made specifically for this device. It is so annoying when typing an imessage and hit the return button for new paragraph and it sends.

I'm unsure about the ipad Pro keyboard, but I usually press enter and it sends the message. I can get a line return when I hold 'start / alt opt' on my generic Logitech bluetooth keyboard. Presumably then, being an apple device, holding the Option key while pressing Enter/Return may work for you?
I found the answer. Press 'option' when pressing return and you get a new line.
To go to next line without “sending” the message - <Option> <Return> will move cursor to next line using an Apple Keyboard
What happens when you do tap on Enter? Does the cursor move to the next line? It should. If not try unpairing and pairing your BT keyboard again. Set up and use third-party Bluetooth accessories - Apple Support
In what context? Depending on where you're typing, "enter" may give you a new line or, it may send the information and move you to the next field.
I am using the Apple Bluetooth keyboard with the iPad Pro and whenever I hit 'enter' in Mesages I don't get a new line. Instead the messages were sent. I would like the enter key to insert a new line and not function like the send button.
Are you using the "Enter" key (usually on the numeric keypad) or the "return" key. I think the "return" key should do what you want.
Sorry, don't have an Apple BT keyboard to test myself.
Have you tried Shift+Enter? That combination provides a soft line break in MS Word and a line break in Facebook entries.
This works.
Thanks Gary this has been bugging me for months. Now to get in the habit of doing it 👍
