    Hi,

Your Mac can upgrade to the newest OS X available which is El Capitan v10.11.

El Capitan is available from the App Store for free.

Make sure to backup all your important data prior to upgrading.

Follow the instructions in this support article >  Upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with Carolyn Samit on this one. I hope I am wrong, but my information tells me otherwise.

There were two MacBooks with model identifiers of: MacBook2,1. One was introduced in Nov. 2006 and the other in May 2007. Both also have identical model numbers: A1181. However they have different order numbers: MA699LL/A (white), MA700LL/A (white), & MA701LL/A (black) for the earlier model and MB061LL/A (white), MB062LL/A (white), & MB063LL/A (black) for the later one.

Regardless of which model or order number, none of them should be upgradeable above what you all ready have: OS X Lion 10.7.5. The first MacBook that can run OS X El Capitan is the Late 2008 aluminum MacBook, with model identifier: MacBook5,1

FWIW, I have a white Late 2008 MacBook with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and I cannot upgrade it past OS X Lion.

Here is the link to the USA store where you can order/purchase a download code. When Apple emails you the code, you go to the Mac App Store and enter the code to do the download. It is not free.

I can confirm Tesserax's, and Apple Israel's assessments.

Your particular model of MacBook cannot update past OS X 10.7.5 Lion.  Which you already have.

A 2,1 MacBook is a 2007 model, and anything beyond Lion requires a Late 2008 Aluminum MacBook at the very least.

Note the requirements section in the following link:

Lion is latest for your Mac and that does not support the Apple Messages app. If you want the Apple Messages app you will have to get a newer Mac or get an Iphone, iPad or iPod Touch that has Messages
