Apple ID v. MacBook Pro update

I have a 4 year old MacBook Pro that needs some updates but the Apple Store says my user id is not correct.

I did change the user id a year or two ago when I changed email providers. What can I do since I do not remember the password for the old user?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.4)
