i need to activate my ipad, bought fro a boyfriend but no longer together, dont know his whereabouts,

    If you have experienced Activation Lock, there is no way around it. If you are the original purchaser, you can take the original receipt to an physical Apple Store and ask for assistance. If you are not the original purchaser, then you will not be able to activate the device. There is no way around it unless the original owner removes the device from their account.

    Since you provide no information whatsoever, how is the device locked that you are asking to unlock it. Have you encountered Activation Lock, or something else? If you activated the device, why can you not re-activate it? If you have forgotten your Apple ID password, then you can try to recover it here, https://iforgot.apple.com
