Q: Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader image resolution inconsistent

I am using the the Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader with my iPhone 6 Plus (iOS 9.3.5) and MacBook Pro running Photos:

Version 1.5 (370.42.0)

Digital Camera RAW 6.20 (856)

Digital Camera RAW Support 6200 (233)

I import RAW files from my Olympus EM10 on my iPhone and then when I view the images in Photos on my Mac I see inconsistent resolution information.

These are two consecutive images taken with identical settings...

If drag both images out of Photos on to my desktop (export as JPEG) then they have the correct resolution information...

Also interesting. If I import these photos directly to my Mac via the built in card reader, I don't see this issue.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

correct - when you import to an IOS device (the exact details are best ask in the iPad forum since it does not involve the Mac or Photos for the Mac in any way - it is strictly an IOS feature) under some circumstances the maximum resolution is 2400 x 3200

Your best solution is to import to your Mac directly

How do the images get from the iPhone to your Mac?  iCloud Photo Library?  My Photo Stream?

Did you edit the image on your iPhone, that is showing as too small?

Your iPhone cannot do any RAW developement, so it is faking the edited versions by simply editing the embedded JPEG previews of the RAW images. The preview may have a smaller pixel size.  When Photos on your MAc is exporting the edited versions it will create a new edited version by processing the RAW files, and then the pixel size should be corrected.

iCloud photo library is what is doing the syncing.

Aha! This totally makes sense. So basically any image that I have viewed on my phone (or possibly the phone "did" something with it) then it will have a 3200x2400 preview. Once Photos on Mac process the image it is able to do a full size render and displays the correct resolution.

Yes, for your RAW photos on the iPhone or iPad, because Photos iOS cannot develop the RAW files.
