A few weeks ago, I connected my iPad 2 to my HDTV with an iPad to HDMI cord. Worked beautifully and super easy. Plugged them both in and away we went. I should also note that I've used this same cord while traveling and using other TVs.
This weekend though, no matter what I tried, I couldn't get my iPad to show up on my TV. Same cord.
So, what gives?

You could try a different TV input, and a different HDMI cable. One or the other might be the problem.
Try disconnecting the HDMI adapter from the iPad and rebooting the iPad by holding down the home and power / sleep buttons together for 10 to 15 seconds or until the Apple logo appears.
Let the iPad reboot, and try to connect the adapter again.
Tried this with the other two HDMI ports and no dice.
Try changing the video output modes for the HDMI adapter. Does your TV support 1080p video? But it appears that there are no mode settings, so that won't help. Sorry.
The 'video output modes?' I can choose between 5 outputs. Antenna, 3 HDMI, and RGB cables.
It does support 1080p, there's a box at the top when a channel is changed that lets me know what mode it's currently in.
Sorry. Those are your TV inputs. Apparently there are no adjustments on the HDMI converter.

I can tell you 100% that I didn't mess with anything. 3 weeks ago, I plugged one end into the iPad, one end into the TV. I opened the lid on the iPad and a second later, it showed up on my TV.
Now, the TV says, 'No input detected.' That sort of tells me that the iPad isn't pushing the signal out to the TV, which is why I thought maybe there was some wacky update recently that jacked it up.
Did you try to reset the iPad as explained above?
I didn't reset (that would seem a tad excessive), but I did restart.
I powered down both the TV and iPad. I tried once where I turned the TV on first, then the iPad. Another time, I powered on the iPad first, then the TV.
So, this really isn't an iOS thing?
Power down, as in holding down the power button for a few seconds until the Slide to turn off message appears?
Resetting also known as Restarting, is no more excessive than turning the iPad off.
It does not delete any data on the iPad. But it is known to clear issues like the one you describe.
Resetting or Restarting is not the same as Restoring.
I did turn the iPad off and waited 60 seconds before implementing the different Power On sequences between iPad and TV.
And in both instances, the TV never detected video input from the iPad where usually it's spot on.
Again, how did you turn off the iPad? Did you just press the power button once? Did you hold it down until the slider appeared?
I will say again, hold down the home and power / sleep buttons on the iPad together for 10 or 15 seconds or until the Apple logo appears.
