Q: Is it possible to block a user on this forum?

Oh, absolutely, of course.  Personally, I view reporting as a very last resort. In fact, that's why I would rather just block, it doesn't serve me to injure somebody's standing with the site, I just want them out of my own hair. But we can all read the terms of use, and can tell the difference between what's in a gray area, and what's somebody resolutely marching past the line and trying hard to be nonconstructive. It can be a cumulative thing.

Anyway, the point is to agree with you, yes, there is definitely a need for discretion. You should definitely think before you report and, like Wikipedia says, "assume good faith" if it all possible. I definitely waited until it had gone on for a while, and it became clear that they were not going to stop even after I asked them to, before I reported them.

Not that I have a problem with this above humorous image reply at all myself, but I can't figure out why all my on-topic replies are getting removed as "not constructive", while something like this stays.

Has anybody got some constructive advice for me that can help me avoid this happening in the future?
