Q: bought iphone used need help activating no sim

I purchased a used iPhone 4 trying to activate it , but keeps saying need sim, I don't have one I just want to get it started so my son can download him some games and then I can purchase a phone plan and sim at a later time.. help

    You need to get cellular service from a local provider who will provide the SIM. Note that if the device is otherwise locked you may not be able to use it at all.

     

    It requires the Apple ID and password of the previous owner. If you don't have it and cannot get it, then the device is useless to you. Return it for a refund, if you can, or take it to an Apple store for an exchange provided they will help you.

    NO iPhone can be activated without a SIM.  That being said, the SIM doesn't need to be an active SIM.  An older deactivated SIM will work.  If the phone is locked to a carrier, only an active or de-activated SIM from that carrier can be used.
