Q: Wifi network no longer visible only for Mac Air (visible to others), have to rename network to find and connect
Following an internet outage sometimes the network name no longer appears in the Wifi drop list in the menu bar for my Mac Air (11", mid-2011).
However it is available and works fine for my Mac Mini (exactly the same version of OS X), various iOS devices and a couple of non-Apple devices.
Running 10.11.6 but this problem has occurred on earlier versions of El Capitan and on Yosemite only on this Mac Air.
Only renaming the network has resolved the issue so far.
I have tried the following and would welcome any suggestions.
- restart router
- delete network from network preferences > advanced > Wi-Fi, restart
- add new location in network preferences > location, restart
- add new location in network preferences > location, and renew DHCP lease in advanced > TCP/IP, restart
- SMC reset
- PRAM reset
- deleted /library/preferences/systemconfiguration, restart
Shortly after I log into the router and rename the network it is available to the Mac Air again and all is fine.
This Mac Air is used infrequently on other wifi networks and has not appeared to have had the same problem, but there is a good chance there were no outages while connected on other networks.
Thanks in advance
MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), null
