Trying to send text to middle east country using wifi to another iPhone. Need info on how to do & must phone be left in airplane mode to receive text reply. Is text then considered an iMessage

Thank you for your quick replay. But now I'm getting confused as I read elsewhere that wifi can be turned on while using airplane mode. I believe there are other toggles that need to be changed. Just not sure which ones. Also do all preceding changes need to be left in "new setting" to receive iMessage from abroad, or can toggles be put back to pre-wifi iMessaging?

When you activate airplane mode, you basically turn all connections off. Then you can turn on wifi from your Control Center. That way you made sure that your messages will be sent over wifi.
