Q: MacBook Air screen "dead"

My MacBook Air that I bought 2 years ago was working fine until a few days ago, when I noticed my screen's brightness flicker, even though it read that it was at full brightness. After a few moments, it flickered again, and then went all black. I could still see my screen, but only if I shone light on it. Exactly like when you put it on the least possible brightness. I've tried rebooting, force shut downs, resetting nvram, and closing and reopening it. The past few days I've been fixing it by closing it and reopening it, but today, it simply won't get any brighter. Yes, I've checked over and over, and it DOES read that my brightness is max. Is this problem fixable by me? Or do I need to replace my Mac?

MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), 4gb ram, 96 gigabytes free
