Not possible.

Airplay on older iPad models will only work with AppleTV connected to a TV.

You wiil need to find and use a paid app to get this to work and find an iOS/OS X app that will work.

Why didn't AirServer work for you? Looks like it got great reviews from all the Mac and Tech magazines?

If you do a search for iPad screen mirroring apps, there are a few other paid apps that are more expensive, but may work for your situation.

No other workarounds for this.

Sorry.

I will test AirServer, myself, with their free week trial and see if I encounter the same issues as you or not.

I downloaded the trial of Air Server onto my late 2009, 27 inch screen iMac (non Retina) running OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion using the Airplay function on my older iPad 2 (haven't tried this with my large iPad Pro, yet) and I had no trouble with this app whatsoever.

My iMac's screen resolutionis set one notch down from its native screen resolution because I don't like the tiny menubar.

The trial won' t let me play YouTube videos, but it streamed some other video apps that I use, like TED talks, SNL video app, Vimeo app.

Oncreen response of my iPad on my iMacs screen was nearly flawless when just navigating my iPad.

The videos do not fill my iMacs screen, but takes on the full screen mode of my iPad.

Video quality on my non-Retina iMac was very acceptable, but not quite as sharp as my iPad.

Still very good, though.

If there is any video/audio lag, it was negligible as just watching my iPad screen from my iMac audio and video really looked to be in sync.

I wasn't comparing any lag from directly from my iPad to my iMac when watching video.

Why would I care about that issues?

As long as the videos play clean, clear, smooth and in sync to my iMac!

This app works great on my older iMac running an older version OS X.

Not seeing the issues you seem to be experiencing.

I am probably going to purchase this app!

This was the very first time I have experienced the AirPlay functionality on my older iMac because my iMac was too old to support it!

I like having this ability!

What are the real issues with Air Server on your MacBook Pro?

What year and model is your MacBook Pro?

How Much RAM installled?

What are you using for a WiFi router/MODEM?

You didn't mention ANYTHING about "professional;" usage in your original post.

I found AirServer to work very well on my iMac that is an older, non Retina display.

Again, what are wanting to do with your iPad on your MacBook Pro?

Do you need iPad screen mirroring to your MacBook Pro for some sort of "professional" usage?

Again, what year and model MacBook Pro and what do you need iPad mirroring to your MacBook for?

I have found AirServer very good for its very cheap price,

And AirServer comes in a Windows PC version, also!

I am afraid I am not understanding your issues here.

I am Airplaying my iPad 2 and large iPad Pro through AirServer on my 2009 iMac and the Wifi transfer to my iMac of any iPad video or images or general iPad usage on my iMac's screen looks terrific!

What am I not understanding about the issue with this app on your MacBook Pro running El Capitán?

Does your MacBook Pro have, at least 8 GBs of RAM installed?

El Cap needs a minimum RAM of 8 GBs of RAM or more.

My iMac runs with a Core2duo 3.06 Ghz CPU, 256 MBs of video RAM and has 16 GB of physical RAM installed.

Maybe AirServer isn't working as well due to not enough or insufficient RAM in your MacBook Pro?

You are not stating your MacBook's specs or real difficulties with AirServer when it runs very well on my desktop iMac with an older OS X system.
