Q: How to I bypass Activation Lock?

Hello,

I'm new to the discussions forum here. My friend recently bought a second-hand iPhone 5 from a friend of mine, when I try to setup the iPhone itself, it says "Activation Lock" and that the device was lost and erased, I asked my friend that whether he had remembered his Apple ID and Password or not, he said that the apple store did it for him and he doesn't remember any of it! Please help if you can.

Thank you!

Give the iPhone back to your "friend" for a full refund.

Activation Lock is a theft deterrent tool and cannot be bypassed.

    Hi

You are describing Activation Lock, which prevents unauthorised use of the iPhone if it is lost or stolen.

This can be disabled by the person who enabled it either entering their Apple ID and password on the device or by them removing the iPhone from their devices list in Find My iPhone via iCloud.com.

If the friend who sold the iPhone is the original owner and the one who enabled Activation Lock, they can try to recover their forgotten Apple ID and password information:

If they cannot recover this information, but they still have their proof of purchase as the original owner of the iPhone, ask them to accompany the new owner and the device to a Genius Bar appointment, where Apple may be able to assist in removing the lock.

If you cannot arrange for either of these steps to be taken, then your other friend (the buyer) will be unable to use the iPhone. There is no way around this security feature.
