My iPod Classic keeps pausing itself

My iPod Classic keeps pausing itself randomly while I'm listening to music. I've had this problem before and it's fixed by using different headphones. However, I'm tired of having to buy new headphones (I use Apple headphones, by the way) every time this problem pops up. Is there something wrong with the headphone jack, and if so can I do something to fix it?

A sensor tells the iPod there's a plug in the headphones jack. Maybe it's becoming faulty and sometimes not seeing that headphones are connected, so the iPod stops playing.

If it's a hardware problem, there's are accessories that connects to the dock connector, to provide a separate audio output. Here's an example

Sound quality is supposedly enhanced (compared to standard headphones output). And you get a playback remote control on the cord.
